Summer Session of Evanston Encore Chorale at The Merion to Begin
June 10, 2016
The Merion in Evanston will host its second season of the Evanston Encore Chorale, beginning on June 21st. Under the direction of Jonathan Miller, Encore Evanston, an affiliate of Encore Creativity, seeks to enrich the lives of older adults by offering an opportunity to perform with their peers in a professionally conducted choral group.
Evanston Encore is open to any adult age 55 and older from throughout the area who has the desire to perform. What makes the chorale especially appealing is the fact that it’s open to a wide variety of singers who want the opportunity to participate. “Encore draws lifelong choral singers and those who haven’t sung in a while, as well as people who’ve never sung in a choir and want to give it a try,” said Miller. Participants need not be able to read music, and are able to rehearse and perform while seated. Rehearsal CDs are available which singers report as being useful. Convenient daytime rehearsals will be held weekly on Tuesday mornings at The Merion.
“We are really grateful to The Merion for hosting this program. The Crystal Ballroom is a beautiful venue for us to rehearse and perform,” said Miller.
“Our first session of Evanston Encore Chorale was a resounding success,” said Margaret Gergen of The Merion. “We knew that our residents and neighbors love music but were delighted by the number of those who wanted to make music with this great ensemble. After hearing about what a wonderful time the singers had, we’re looking forward to additional members this summer.”
Evanston Encore Chorale’s second six-week session will be held on Tuesdays at 10-11:30 a.m. at The Merion. Evanston Encore Chorale is co-sponsored by The Merion and North Shore Village. Advance registration is available at www.EncoreIllinois.org or by calling 630-441-5157.
